It’s hard to read the paper or listen to radio and not hear ads for charitable vehicle donation – regardless of their claims, it take some effort on your part to donate a car for tax deduction purposes and benefit everyone involved. Of course, that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen, but in practice, agents that handle car donations for charity (and buy those ads) can come out far better than everyone else in such a transaction.

Being able to get your charity of choice the best deal possible, when you donate a car for tax deduction purposes, will also increase the amount you would be able to subtract from your income when figuring your taxes. It is to your advantage to find a charity that can use your vehicle directly, rather than selling it off. Even if they donate it to an individual or family in need, you are allowed to deduct the fair market value of your vehicle, as they would have paid if you had you sold it to them directly.

————————————————————————————————————————

*Tax Tip: Contributions must be made to “qualified” organizations, including religious, charitable and educational, as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. That’s bureaucratic gobbledygook to most of us. Contributions are frequently made in respect to and/or in “loving memory” of human family and friends as well as animal companions. We are a non-profit charitable organization relying entirely on donations for support of our programs. Contributions of many kinds are welcomed.

————————————————————————————————————————

There was a loophole in the 1990’s and early ‘aughts that caused third-party, for-profit agents to skim as much as 70% from each vehicle transaction at auction. The reliance upon wholesale auction was further complicated by the for-profit reliance of such companies upon economies of scale. Without the help of volunteer labor, it would cost to much to take the time in finding a retail sale. Thus, the vast majority of donated cars, for tax deductions, were forwarded to the wholesale market.

This practice was noticed by independent reporters and the US General Accounting Office. This meant that there was a large discrepancy between the amount claimed as “fair market value.” Nearly $700 million in discrepancies were found in the year 2000, for instance. Since 2005, for those who’ve donate cars, tax deductions have been seriously limited and include additional filing requirements.

The fair market value continues to be the price at which you could reliably expect to sell your car for, person-to-person and without any pressure to complete the transaction on either end. Such a retail sale may be an order of magnitude higher that that paid at wholesale auction. In the case of a donated car, tax deductions may not even be worthwhile unless the return on your donation is increased by considering its ultimate fate.

And honestly, you don’t want to see your $3,000 sedan that you’ve spent so much time in be sold for $30 at an auction, tossed on the back of a truck and shipped to a far-off state for dismantling. Wouldn’t you prefer your car “lived on” with someone else? It’s hard to get rid of a car, but at least when you donate a car, tax deductions and the intangible good feeling of donating to someone less fortunate can ease your car-guilt.

Aside from being environmentally unfriendly when long haul transport is considered, there is the matter of a very small sale price. According to the latest guidelines, when you donate a car to charity, the tax deduction is limited to the amount it was originally sold for, if the car is sold during the first two years after you donate it.

After you decide to donate a car, tax deduction considerations behoove you to do a little calling around and find a local non-profit organization that can actually use your car as part of it’s IRS-approved, charitable mission.

You will find that very few charities conduct their own car sales. However, educational operations often sell a well-refurbished vehicle at charity auctions. Such sales often command a price even higher than the fair-market value, even though one is limited by the extent of the (your) donation rather than what they did to spiffy it up. Donated cars for tax deductions are certainly not the most lucrative beak on one’s tax burden (credits are usually worth about 3 times as much), but they can be very useful. Get the most out of yours and help some people in your neighborhood.

When it comes to school fundraising, it can be a jungle out there. Competition is fierce and fundraising for schools can be taken very seriously between the teachers, kids, and parents involved. With a few friendly tips and ideas, however, that ferociousness and competitive spirit can be replaced with gracious, giving attitudes and, most of all, a friendly and fun outlook!

To put the “fun” back in fundraising, it is important to impress upon the participants that it is not a contest. There are various reasons a school may participate in fundraising, including library costs and school trips, but none of these reasons should turn innocent kids into cash-hungry monsters. Instead, fundraising should encourage kids to get creative and to have fun working together to raise funds for something that is important. Adding prizes is a good idea in theory, but prizes far too often lead to difficult situations and problematic fundraising practices.

Fundraising Ideas

There are a number of ideas when it comes to school fundraising. Some schools go with entire catalogues filled with items to sell, but these catalogues can often be overwhelming and can confuse potential donators. Instead of going with a wide variety of products or services to sell for fundraising, it is a good idea to go with a simpler approach and offer straightforward products or services that everyone can use and enjoy.

A good fundraising idea should be easy to sell and it should offer good value to the person that purchases it. Many schools sell prepaid phone cards or discount shopping cards, as these ideas offer tremendous value to the purchaser and come in handy. The discount card option is a great idea for schools, as it contains a number of prearranged discounts and involves a partnership with local retailers and companies.

Other great fundraising ideas include:

• Bake sales
• Auction for products or services, such as lawn-mowing or painting services
• Bingo
• Mini-golf tournament
• Karaoke night
• Car wash

All of these ideas are great for school fundraising, as there is no limit to the services and products that can be included. Auctions are especially fun, as old toys and items can be sold for a nice price and the benefits come back to the students at the school. Items like dollhouses, stuffed animals, and other great items make great auction ideas.

Keep It Positive

With a great fundraising idea in mind, it’s important to keep the focus on fundraising and positivity. When planning a fundraiser, it is important to include as many of the school children as possible. This defines a role for each child and includes everyone. Nobody likes to feel left out of something important, so allocate responsibility and make sure each child has a task to do.

It should be fun to fundraise, so make sure that all of the children are treated with good humor and positivity. Try to plan little rewards or presents along the way, ensuring that the children enjoy being there and have something extra special to look forward to. Plan a dinner or lunch after the fundraiser to reflect on the experience overall, too.

Most people realize that funding is a tool to do God’s work and the amount of funding earned helps to determine the effectiveness of our giving.

For example if your youth group was going on a mission but there was only enough funds to get half of them to the location then less will be accomplished, or what if you could get everyone there but were not able to bring bibles, food, and that much needed water pump? Fewer people might have their mind open to hearing God’s word.

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:6)

What is your cause?

Determine the single cause for which all of the money will be used. This needs to be something “extra”. A van for the youth group, a new roof or pews for the church, the 2009 South American Mission. This step is absolutely essential, as the cause must create enthusiasm and determination among the group. The greater the cause the more people will want to participate and make it happen.

Having a fundraiser to pay the utilities or to keep the church alive will not work, if the congregation as a whole were behind those efforts they would have already happened and would be an indicator to the over all success you would have in church fundraising.
How much do you need to raise?

Determine the amount of money that will be required in order to accomplish your cause, this will be your goal.

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.” ( Luke 14:28)

At the start of the fundraising campaign you will want to let everyone know what the goal is and exactly what the fundraiser will pay for. If the fundraiser is to get a new sound/video system for the church write out exactly what is being paid for and how it will benefit the congregation, Sell it!

“This fundraising money will be used to purchase and install:

    * 3 woofermajigers
* 1 sound board
* 1 sub processing system
* 1 amplification system
* 3 60×90 overhead projection screen
* 1 3-way projection system

This new sound system will allow our choir and band to be heard crisply and clearly. With our over head projection screens showing the words to songs and hymns everyone will be able to sing along, including new patrons that may not already know the words. Our chorus of joyous voices will raise the roof and lift our spirits! This will also help us to make guest feel welcome and perhaps they will come back and praise with us again… just one more way we can spread God’s word. Additionally if you have you ever missed the first 2 minutes of my sermon while you are looking up the verse you will really appreciate that you will be able to see it on a state of the art overhead screen…….or as the Pastor you could say I am tired of seeing the top of peoples heads for the first two minutes of my sermons”

You must sell it, you must drum up support.

What is your product?

I recommend fundraising discount cards because they are quick, easy and profitable. The church members sell the fundraising cards just like they would sell candy bars or pop corn. They sell for $10 and cost as little as $1.50 each. Supporter can sell 10 – 20 cards. On the front of your fundraising discount card will be your organization’s name, logo, and expiration date. The back will contain twelve (12) to twenty (20) local merchants, each giving a buy one get one free offer or other discount. The cards are valid for one (1) year of continuous use by the bearer.

Since a discount card fundraiser is also a great opportunity for the merchant, most of them will stay with the group for a fundraiser year after year. Some groups actually form waiting lists. Easy Fundraising Cards is great source.

Communicate, communicate, communicate!

Continue to remind people why their effort is so important. Communicate daily with everyone involved in the fundraising effort, let them know how it is going, let them hear success stories, praise the efforts of those producing the greatest results, so other will follow. everyone wants to be recognized for their efforts in a successful cause and want to be part of “the buzz”.

Your church fundraising efforts can produce quick revenue to continue God’s work.

With the constant budget cuts in school funding it seems as if nearly every club, sports team, choir, band, and cheerleading squad is searching for some way to raise funds. While this is a great way to teach the children responsibility, it can become disheartening very quickly. When everyone is selling something, it’s important to have the best product at the lowest price or you won’t have much success. Thus, if you are a member or leader of a group that is looking for original fund raising projects you may want to look into selling school lanyards.

School lanyards are the perfect fund raising project. These cheap lanyards show school spirit and are very useful. Students and adults alike will love school lanyards. They can be simple like the type used for carrying keys, or they can have a more advanced attachments which bring myriad uses. School lanyards can be customized to carry cell phones, mp3 players, id badges and they can even serve as a wallet. Although they are inexpensive, they do not have to be “cheap” lanyards.

Some companies see school lanyards as a way to make money by selling ridiculous, “throw away” type products. Before you select a company to do business with make sure that this is not what they offer. Any reputable school lanyard supplier will usually be happy send samples if you pay the cost of postage or handling. They will also take special care to match your school colors and use any type of lettering or logo you desire. The better companies will have in-house graphics departments which will prepare a graphic proof for you to preview before production. By comparing samples, services and prices from various websites you can be sure to acquire cheap school lanyards rather than “cheap” school lanyards.

Most companies lower the price of lanyards as you increase your order. For example the cost for 500 will be less per piece than the cost for 250. This is because once production begins the printers cost is reduced. If you choose to order only 250 school lanyards you can expect to pay a little more than $1 per piece. If you order 20,000 your cost will much lower. Since this is the case you obviously will want to order as many as you think you can use. However be careful not to order too many, custom printed lanyards will not be returnable.

A good way to measure the quantity you will need is to order 2 school lanyards per student in the schools student body. While not every student will buy 2 this will allow for the students who buy more than 2. It will also allow for parents and teachers who wish to purchase school lanyards. Believe it or not some adults really do support the public education system. Often these adults wish to show school spirit just as much as the students currently in attendance. Do not leave out perspective customers by limiting your sales base.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most companies save your screen setup. So, by printing the lanyards with just a school name and logo (rather than including, say, the year) you will be able to us the same print on re-orders and save money by avoiding the setup cost on subsequent school lanyard purchasing.

Make selling school lanyards your next fund raising project. This can be done by using cheap lanyards as long as they are of good quality. You may find that school lanyards become so popular that you will only need one fund raiser. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Fundraising is very popular in schools – it pays for field trips, student exchange programmes, extra-curriculars and helps schools support charities.
Find out if your favourites made the top 10 list of most popular school fundraising ideas:

Bake sale
Candy sales
Pizza sales
Raffle
Catalog sales
Dress-up day
Shoebox appeal

Despite making our list, pizza and candy sales have come under scrutiny lately because they reinforce unhealthy eating choices for younger kids. If your school is considering a pizza or candy sale, perhaps you could mix it up with something different – a book fair, wrapping paper sales or a catalog sale. These fundraising ideas often yield the same fundraising profit as candy or pizza sales.

Always remember: Just because these school fundraising ideas are popular doesn’t mean these are the only options out there. In fact, parents and kids appreciate variety in their fundraising choices, particularly if they have children attending more than one school. Nobody wants three of the same fundraiser every year; make sure you offer a diverse list of ideas to your school administrators before a final decision is made.

So, the next time you’re planning a fundraiser for your school, keep these popular fundraising ideas in mind – and quiz the kids for some of their own quirky ideas too!

Charities are always competing to raise money for their worthwhile causes. Here’s a way you might not know about.

From live events, community fairs and swanky galas, there are countless ways to raise both money and awareness for meaningful causes. Through the internet charities can reach not only more people from all corners of the globe, but, if smart about it, also raise more money than usual fundraising ventures.

How much more? Well, through an “online” charity auction the possibilities are endless…

Recent research showed that 83% of consumers in the UK would prefer to purchase products that were associated with a charitable cause.

Online auctions are a cost-effective way for charities to expand their reach and engage supporters willing to donate. Bidders feel that they benefit twice – once when they receive the item they successfully bid for and once when the charity receives the proceeds.

Here’s a tip to raising even more money – by putting a charity auction online, and building traffic to the website, this creates commercial sponsorship opportunities on the site, these businesses not only create a halo effect around them from supporting a good cause but enjoy the online exposure to a targeted audience.

The argument that is often heard is that by hosting an online charity auction you lose the benefit and excitement that is achieved through a live auction. On the contrary! Online auctions can be run in the lead up to a live auction, combining the winning bids online with the live bids, therefore effectively the person who placed their max bid online is acting as a telephone bidder during the live auction. It doesn’t take a mathematical genius to work out that if millions of people globally can bid on the same items as the people at the live auction it will only help to drive winning bids upwards.

Recent research has also shown that the majority of bidders online are female, and that females are under represented in live auctions. “Online” auctions enable females to relax and enjoy their bidding experience rather than competing in a highly challenging male orientated environment.

There are hundreds of stories that show how online fundraising auctions are win-win propositions, benefiting charities, donors and buyers. There is certainly an element of fun to bidding online for charity, and bidders leave with real items and not just a cash receipt! Bidders typically consider their online auction donation as external to their usual yearly budget for charitable giving, helping to grow the charitable sector as a whole.

But how do charities get started and run their own online auctions? These can be set up from the comfort of the home or office and there is no need to spend all day posting the items and managing the bidding.

There are various sites that enable you to register and create your auction in a matter of minutes, and others that specialise in creating customised online auctions that can be integrated into your site. You will need to choose the one that best suits your objectives. A very top-end auction would probably align more with a customised, elegant website designed specifically for the job in hand. Whereas, a smaller more local, low value auction would be more suitable to a generic auction site.

These sites will not only create your auction system and post photos of the lots, but manage the behind-the-scenes bidding and payment processes. Their systems will not only reduce the strain on resources but will increase the amount of bidders, items, sponsors and funds raised for your charity.

Online charity auction sites have all the experience, knowledge, resources and tools necessary to help you through all the stages of creating a successful online charity auction.

- Church or other religious organizations

These non-profit organizations are always in a dire necessity for new and effective fundraising ideas. However among the various ways, few basic ones act as the backbone of an organization. These few but stable sources for fundraising are dependable and helpful in critical necessities.

Here are few of these steady sources –

- Individual source: According to a research result published on 2005 by Giving USA, individual funding as a source has come out as the major source for non profit fundraiser with $199.07 billions.

- Corporate source: This is a good source in programs of new schemes or projects, special initiatives or events. In case of corporate source, make sure to launch profitable cause related marketing. This is because the objectives of the corporate houses are to gain something while giving.

- Government source: Government has various projects and funds to help diverse cause related programs. It easily supports non-profit social awareness or social upliftment programs through various grants and endowments.

- Federal source: This is a source limited to reputed organizations only. Funds like United Artists’ or United Laborers’ help a lot in cause related non-profit initiatives.

- Foundation source: There are different types of foundations like – private, corporate, community or family. These vary according to the quantity, flexibility, features and type. But its importance and amount become very functional.

These are few traditional and basic sources for nonprofit fundraising. But, you need to be inventive enough to find out more sources. For that consider all types of fundraising programs. Basically, there are two types of fundraiser ideas –

- Ongoing

- Episodic

Along with these, there are also two exceptional types of non-profit fundraising ideas –

- Capital fundraising campaign

- Planned giving fundraising

With all these fundraising ideas, techniques and sources, you can sure raise a large fund for your cause related non-profit initiatives.

Donating vehicles to charity seems to benefit everyone involved. If you are the donor, you get a chance to dispose of your old car, do some good, and get a tax deduction in the process. If you used an agent, he would also make some money out of the sale of your car. Of course, the main benefactor is the charity. However, how much do they really benefit from car donations?

According to studies, charities usually receive as little as five percent or less of the reported value of a donated vehicle. Usually, this happens because of other deductions from the sale of the car used to pay for advertising, towing, improving the condition of the car and processing documents. Some charities also agree to take a flat fee for a donated vehicle no matter what its market value is.

If you are considering donating vehicles to charity, be careful in employing car donation agents. Many are out to assist you in donating vehicles to charity for the purpose of profit. Some devise ways on how to resell the donated car for much more after selling them at auctions for a meager amount.

What you can do is search for charities that accept vehicle donations without using the services of intermediaries. These charities will process the necessary paperwork for you. However, you should still practice caution when donating vehicles to charity directly. Many companies disguise themselves as charities soliciting car donations and eventually selling the donated cars and keeping the profits.

The prevalence of such frauds in car donation programs gave rise to new laws concerning donating vehicles to charity. The tax deduction that a donor will receive is limited to the gross amount that the charity received. Charities that sell donated cars should provide donors with a written notice containing the gross sale amount of the donated car if it is valued at $500 or higher. On the other hand, charities that use donated vehicles in their operations should provide the donor with a written guarantee of how the charity intends to use the car donation and for how long.

When donating vehicles to charity, you should always check that the organization is registered and legitimate. To ensure that your donation will truly benefit the charity, your best option is to donate your car to an organization that can make full use of it in their operations. Look for charities in your local area or ask them for help in locating charities that may have a need for an old car for transportation, deliveries and errands.

Most of us make a charity donation at some point in our lives, and the reasoning behind it varies considerably whether it be to support a cause that aided a loved one, to offer our help in a time of need, or maybe simply to avoid something going to waste. Regardless of the reasons, I am sure that everyone that has made a charity donation has one thing in common – the great feeling that giving left them feeling on the inside.

Knowing that people or organizations have benefitted from our actions creates a feeling of happiness within us, as it does to the beneficiary of the donation, even more so when the beneficiary of your charity donation is a child. Now, I know many people will be saying that to donate to a child or a children´s hospital or organization is a great idea, but they hold back because they are unsure if the donation will reach the frontline and if there really will be a beneficiary of your offer. This is especially the case with the offer of financial donations.

I would like to take a moment and explain a cause that will make your charity donation a personalized one. With the process that is carried out, you can rest assured you really did make a difference in a young person’s day and future – as well as to their family, their loved ones, and the people caring for them. The company who enable this donation process is Wonfurwons, and they pledge that for each stuffed animal toy you buy from them, you can select another stuffed animal and a charity or organization of your choice from their list. This is what makes it a personal donation, YOU select the toy to be donated and YOU select who receives it.

At this time, they have a selection of 18 Wonfurwons for donations to 35 different charities and organizations. This is a number that is increasing at an incredible rate. Imagine, one of each of the 18 toys, to each organization puts a smile on 630 children’s faces and warms them to have the knowledge that there are people thinking and caring for them in their time of need. This is what makes a charity donation special, and to be able to personalize your donation to such a degree makes it an unbelievable and unforgettable experience.

The extra benefit that comes from using www.wonfurwons.com for your charity donation is as stated above. The donation is made for each toy you buy after registering it – so for every child or loved one in your life that you make smile with a Wonfurwon, that is a smile that can be carried through to a child’s hospital bed and a memory they will treasure for years to come. Reward yourself today, and create an endless list of smiles with a charity donation of a Wonfurwon.
